Wuyi flowery Rou Gui
Wuyi flowery Rou Gui
Rou Gui is known for its bold and robust character, a feature cherished by oolong tea, expecially Yan Cha enthusiasts. It is not only dominant in flavor but also responsible for the fragrance. There are three main types of cinnamon oolong, which offering five distinct aroma profiles. Jing Tea Shop’s Wuyi tea farm brings you a selection of these different types of cinnamon oolong, each with its unique characteristics.
This is a Hua Xiang (floral) Rou Gui. After undergoing normal fermentation, the tea is lightly to moderately roasted, revealing the fragrances of orchid and gardenia. The underlying cinnamon aroma remains present, a signature characteristic of the variety. No matter the mountain or tea field, this cinnamon always carries the same base scent. This particular batch of Hua Xiang Rou Gui stands out with a distinct orchid fragrance. Unlike the bright, high notes of orchid in varieties like Jin Guan Yin or Huang Guan Yin, this Hua Xiang Rou Gui has a deeper, more subdued orchid aroma—rich, sweet, and steady. Once brewed, the tea reveals the cinnamon scent in both the lid and the leaf base, with the orchid fragrance subtly mingling in the tea soup, offering a faintly sweet floral note that rises from the throat. The fusion of the tea’s fragrance with the water results in a full-bodied, substantial mouthfeel. After all the floral notes have faded, a woody aroma emerges, which is the tea's true essence—its natural fragrance, captured in the leaf base.
